USA-TKJ Book: KODOKAN KIME NO KATA
Book - KODOKAN KIME NO KATA
A Heritage from the Samurai Age
Language: English
Jigoro Kano started training in the Kime no kata at the Kodokan Judo Institute in 1889. The kata of deciding and focusing. The original name of the Kime no kata was Shinken shobu no kata, which means: the kata of real life victory. A battle between life and death. The Kodokan Judo Institute translated this into the official term Kime no kata as a form of deciding.
The Kime no kata was developed and included into Kodokan Judo to reflect the core of the old ryu. It shows the essence of the old ryu and symbolizes the heritage of the jiu-jitsu and meaning of the samurai.
The goal of the kata is to achieve perfection that eventually leads to mastery.
Marco Colson (5th dan) in Kodokan Judo wants to reach everyone that is in some way engulfed by kata, whether this is study, training or competition.
