Technical Excellence in Martial Arts training is one of USA-TKJ’s top priorities. As Leaders in the Martial Arts, it is our sacred responsibility to ensure that all our students receive the best possible "Mentoring" both in technique and philosophy of the Martial Arts.

Martial Art Training is the cornerstone of knowledge and the basis for credible self-defense skill and the perfection of human character. Training in a comprehensive taxonomy of Traditional Kodokan Judo Skills & Techniques is the "Key" by which the USA-TKJ’s Members develop their Martial Art Proficiency and exercise the collective capabilities required in self-defense or competition. Traditional Kodokan Judo Training builds Character Development and, when necessary, prepares the Judoka - to "Win" in competition or when confrontation (or combat) cannot be avoided.

While Senior Yudansha determine the direction and goals of training, it is the Dojo Sensei (& Assistant Sensei) who ensure that every training activity or class is well planned and rigorously conducted. These Rank Requirements are designed to guide and assist the Sensei to accomplish his or her goals in teaching the USA TRADITIONAL KODOKAN JUDO® system. The USA-TKJ® Rank System is divided into twelve separate divisions of training to include:

Breakfalling Techniques - Ukemi Waza

Body Movement - Taisabaki Waza

Striking & Blocking Techniques - Atemi & Uke Waza

Joint Locking Techniques - Kansetsu Waza

Combination Techniques - Renraku Waza

ChokingTechniques - Shime Waza

Grappling Techniques - Katame Waza

Throwing Techniques - Nage Waza

Self-Defense Techniques - (counter, escapes, avoidance)

Goshinjutsu Waza - (Kaeshi, Fusegi, Furimi)

Formal Exercise - Kata

Free Practice - Randori

USA Traditional Kodokan Judo (USA-TKJ) ®, along with the Panamerican Judo Union (PJU), International Traditional Kodokan Judo (ITKJ) & Martial Arts International Federation (MAIF), have established the training doctrine & guidance. The Dojo Sensei should apply these guidelines and assist the USJJF Leadership in the further development & conduct of USA-TKJ® Training. These USA-TKJ Rank Requirements provide the training & promotion guidelines for USA-TKJ Sensei & students in the areas of martial art history, traditions, techniques, strategy & terminology.

We are pleased to present this Official USA-TKJ® Rank Requirements Manual for SENIORS as an outstanding "Companion Resource" to the multiple USA-TKJ Training Resource Books which clearly illustrate the Skills & Techniques of TRADITIONAL KODOKAN JUDO®.

This Manual For Seniors includes the 7 Kyu Levels, White thru Brown Belt.

(Note: There is a another USA-TKJ Manual for Dan Grades, 1st Dan thru 10th Dan.)
